Just like in the room builds, to increase the grade of your trap, you must purchase the previous level(s).

I.E., to get a Level C VENM Trap added to your door, you would need to order a Class A, a Class B, and a Class C Trap. Evil Point Traps are separate, but valued and interchangeable with Class A Traps for the purpose of upgrading to Class B or C.
